Tis the season for giving

This past March, I decided to do a giveaway in a different way. Instead of just having people like my page and share my post on Facebook, I wanted to raise money for a good cause. I was thrilled with the outcome, as together we were able to raise over $800 for MS research and one lucky family won a free photo session. I was feeling pretty good about everything, but when I received the email from the giveaway winner, I looked at this contest in a whole new light.

You see, Becky’s mom had recently been diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer, and she told me she had just been thinking about how she wanted to get photos of her with her children and grandchildren. We set up the photo session immediately, and although we were battling a very cold spring, we captured some priceless and treasured family photos for Becky’s family, and most importantly, for her mom.

Karen Fogle, Becky’s mom, lost her battle with pancreatic cancer in September. She left behind two gorgeous daughters, a loving husband, and two precious grandchildren with another on the way. I was heartbroken for the family when I heard the news, and when I emailed Becky expressing my condolences, she said how glad she was that they were able to get those pictures of her mom with her family.

You guys, this is why I do what I do. Pictures will last forever. They’re what our children and grandchildren will be left with when we’re gone, and I could not have picked a more deserving family to have won the last giveaway. I still get chills when I think about it. So, we’re doing it again. We’re doing another giveaway/fundraiser, this time for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, in memory of Karen Fogle.

Here are the rules:

  • You must “like” the Lemonade Stand Photography Facebook Page – you can do so HERE.
  • You must “share” this post on your own Facebook Page.
  • In order to be entered into the giveaway, you must make a donation to the fundraising page we’ve set up for this giveaway. All donations collected will be donated to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in Karen Fogle’s name. Each $5 donation counts as one entry into the giveaway, and there is no limit to what you can donate.
  • Use this page to make your donation: http://www.youcaring.com/other/lsp-giveaway-and-pancan-fundraiser/116196 – don’t make your donation anonymous or hide the amount given! I need to be able to track it.
  • Comment back on the Facebook post that you donated and are entered into the giveaway.
  • The giveaway will end on Tuesday, December 17th Friday, December 20th at midnight and the winner will be announced on Wednesday, December 18th Saturday, December 21st.

*Just a note, we chose to use the youcaring.com site as a way to keep all donations in one place, as we must be able to track them. This website collects voluntary donations to fund their operating costs, which are applied before completing your donation. You can easily change this amount to $0, so it is up to you whether you would like to contribute to youcaring.com’s operating costs. All donations will be given to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in Karen Fogle’s name. You can check out that site at http://www.pancan.org

Here are just a few pictures we captured at the session with Karen and her family. I wish I could go back and raise the temperature a bit for them, but I will never regret doing that first fundraiser/giveaway, and I know that I will continue doing them as long as I am in business.

It’s blog circle day! YAY!! I have been waiting for this theme for months, because this one is by far the one closest to my heart – family. I am blessed beyond belief in so many ways, but the area in which I by far lucked out the most is that I was born into the best family ever. Over the summer, my family spent a whole week together – something we did every summer growing up, but now only do once every few years. These weeks hold some of my most precious memories and while I wish we were all able to spend more time together, to say we make the most of the time we do have would be an understatement. Our family reunions always have a “photo shoot” night and this year, yours truly was the photographer :) I am SO excited to show off these amazing people for this month’s theme, so without any more blabber from me – meet my wonderful family:

There really aren’t the right words to express how lucky I feel to have all of these people in my life. They’re a special group and I love them all :) Now, to continue the circle, go find out how Kate from Appleman Images interpreted the family theme! Make sure to leave us a note to let us know what you think!

award winning!

Oh my goodness. I won an award.

It still hasn’t quite sunk in yet, as I kind of feel like I just started. I mean, there are parts of me that feel like I’ve been doing this forever and I have way more confidence and knowledge than I did two years ago, but to win an award???? SO exciting.

So, which award did I win? Twice a year, the National Association of Professional Child Photographers (NAPCP) holds an international image competition for their members. There are eight different categories, each highlighting a different area of children’s photography, and a first, second, and third place winner is chosen for each category. Images are judged on their Impact (40%), Technical Merit (30%) and Composition & Creativity (30%) by a panel of highly experienced and recognized photographers. I entered a handful of images into the competition, and honestly, I was just excited and curious to see how my images were scored and to read the critique of such highly esteemed colleagues. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would win!

Check it out you guys. This image of sweet Celie smiling in her mama’s arms won first place in the newborn category. FIRST place!!

napcp winner

I honestly can’t believe it.

So, what does this mean? Well, first, I get to put that super cool “award winning” seal on the header of my website. Check it out up there :) Next, my entry in the directory of IL child photographers is now highlighted as an “award winner”!! I also get recognition as an award winning photographer, my image gets published in NAPCP’s award winning image gallery, and I get entered into the NAPCP “Photographer of the Year” competition. Holy craziness.

Thank you all so much for your support and love for LSP. I am so fortunate to have a job I love so much, and I thank my lucky stars everyday! To get recognized for something I love so much is just the icing on the cake. I don’t know if it will ever sink in, but it feels pretty good. Thanks so much friends!!

Lindsay Gulo - November 1, 2013 - 9:45 am

I just saw this blog, LOVE it! I’m so very proud of you and you deserve this recognition of an “award winning photographer”. I can’t wait to see all of the awards you continue to win from here on out! I know there will be more! Love you my amazing big sister!! xo

Yay!! It’s blog circle time again, and this month the theme is “food.” I honestly think the themes with the most possibilities are the ones that are the trickiest for me, and at first I could NOT figure out what to do for the life of me! Then my sweet, dear friend and current nursing mama suggested something that made my heart so happy. What better food to focus on than baby’s first food??!!

Being able to produce the best food for our babies straight from our bodies is pretty amazing, when you stop and think about it. Add in the sweet nursing noises, the little hands reaching up to your face, the gazes of pure joy and awe right into your eyes, and the sleepy milk coma smiles when baby’s done eating, and you have some of the most tender moments a mom shares with her little one. Breastfeeding my babies is one of the things I miss most about my kiddos getting so big, and those moments with them will always be some of my most precious memories.

I am so so glad that my friend Robin volunteered herself and her sweet little baby to be my models for this month’s blog – moms feeding their babes are some of my most favorite pictures ever, and it just fit so perfectly for this month’s theme. There is no greater love than that of a mother for her child, and one of the very first and most basic ways we show them that love is to feed them.

Check out my gorgeous friend Robin and her perfect little Macie.

I love these ladies and these sweet images of them together. Moms – take pictures of you nursing your babies! They will be special to you forever, and you won’t regret it! There’s no better kind of food than mama’s milk :)

Now, click {HERE} to go check out Jennifer from Painting with Sunlight and see how she interpreted the food theme! Don’t forget to leave a comment to let us know what you think!

Steph, I will never get sick of your gorgeous work. You grow each month and it’s breathtaking. I feel so incredibly lucky to have these images to hold on to forever when my baby gets too big to nurse and remember this special bond we have. Thank you again for this special gift you’ve given my baby and I.
